Thomas E. Ripley describes his early school experiences from a passage of his book A Vermont Boyhood, followed by Julia Dorr’s reminiscence of the “Academy” a part of the old town hall. This concludes with a section from “When I was a SchoolGirl” published in Harpers Bazaar in 1912, donated by Frank Sullivan.
A final selection of pictures feature Longfellow School under construction in 1890; an early sketch of the Rutland English and Classical Institute, and a photo of the RECI football team in1895.
An added piece of humor includes a football cartoon by William O’Neil of a last minute play, Rutland vs. West Rutland, published in the 1932 issue of the West Rutland High School “Greenand Gold”
